A note from the founder
Why we started Lion Electric — and why we still do this work.
Lion Electric began in 2005 with a simple idea: superior electrical work paired with the customer service the trade often misses. Two decades later, that idea still drives every quote we send and every panel we touch.
Saguenay roots, journeyman years
I was born and raised in the Region of Saguenay Lac St-Jean, Quebec, and graduated in 1985 with honours as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician. My first decade was spent with a large Quebec contractor working sawmills, industrial sites, and commercial fit-outs — the breadth is where I learned to read complex jobs and stay calm when the drawings do not match the field.
From Crew Chief to Master Electrician
That work earned a promotion to Crew Chief, then to supervisor. But the real goal was always to run my own shop. After earning my Master Electrician License, I opened my first business in 1996 in Alma, Quebec. When the Quebec construction economy tightened, my wife Martine and I moved the business and the family to Mississauga, Ontario.

Lion Electric was founded in 2005 — rooted in family values and a mission to deliver superior service in a safe environment for our customers. I have not looked back since. Today my son David and my son-in-law Justin work alongside me, and the same standards I learned as an apprentice in Quebec are the standards we hold ourselves to on every Peel job.

Who founded Lion Electric and when?
Hubert Larouche founded Lion Electric in 2005 after moving from Quebec to Mississauga, Ontario. He earned his Construction and Maintenance Electrician credentials in 1985 in Saguenay Lac St-Jean and later qualified as a Master Electrician. Lion Electric grew out of that two-decade trade background, and remains family-run today.

Yes. Lion Electric was started by Hubert and his wife Martine, and today Hubert's son David and son-in-law Justin work alongside him on the trade side. The same family is involved from quoting through to ESA sign-off, which is why our crew composition is stable from job to job.
